Today we officially launched Wealthsimple Private Equity, our third alternative investment offering for retail investors.
Private equity allows you to own a stake in a private company. Historically in Canada such investments have been reserved for ultra-wealthy or institutional investors, such as workplace pensions. In fact, Canada’s top 5 pensions have, on average, nearly 20% of their holdings in private equity.
However, the vast majority of Canadians simply don't have a way to invest in this asset class, so they've been unable to take advantage of the diversification it offers, not to mention its compelling returns over the previous two decades. So we're opening access to more investors as part of our managed investing platform.
Wealthsimple Private Equity was created, and will be managed, in partnership with LGT Capital Partners, the Liechtenstein royal family’s wealth management group.
Private equity is best for those with a long investment time horizons. Eligible investors must have a minimum of $100,000 at Wealthsimple and be able to contribute a minimum $10,000 investment, in addition to meeting suitability screening requirements.
